The PSAT/NMSQT is a Preliminary version of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) college entrance examinations. Administered by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE), versions of the PSAT are given to freshmen and sophomores in public schools throughout the state each year.

The National Merit Scholarship Qualification Test is used to determine National Merit Scholar candidates. Michigan colleges and universities also use PSAT and SAT test scores in admission decisions, as well as in awarding scholarships and other financial aid.
 
The PSAT test will be held statewide on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016. Test areas include reading, writing, mathematics, science and an essay. Taking the online practice PSAT test helps students identify areas of strength and those they need to strengthen.
